We practice and teach Kukkiwon Taekwondo and World Taekwondo (Olympic Taekwondo).

What is taekwondo?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art literally translated as “kick-punch-way”.  To characterise Taekwondo as just a combative sport is simply not true, it is a martial art first, which through practice and study, brings about positive changes in the human character.  Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind.

We will give you a membership form to complete after your first lesson.

Can I train with my child / children?

Yes, absolutely.  Training with your family creates a special bond.  We provide a membership concession for any parent training alongside their child/children.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please wear sutable clothing such as a tracksuit, bring a bottle or water/energy drink, a friend if you wish and a little willingness to try.

I would like to try taekwondo, but I need to get in shape first."

One misconception about training in martial arts is that you need to be in shape first, before you start to train.  Why wait?  Get in shape whilst you do taekwondo and learn at the same time.

Where can I get a uniform from?

You can purchase all Taekwondo equipment and uniforms from our online member store.  Alternatively, you are free to purchase from other retailers as long as the equipment/uniform is World Taekwondo recognised.  If you need help or advice regarding brands/sizing, just ask us.

How long does it take to earn my black belt?

Everyone progresses at her/his own pace, but the average time it takes to earn your black belt is three years.

What is the belt/grading system in taekwondo?

A white belt is supplied with your uniform.  This is the starting grade known as 10th Kup.  There are gradings every three months to progress you through the ranks.  Next is white belt-yellow tag (9th Kup), yellow belt (8th Kup), yellow belt-green tag (7th Kup), green belt (6th Kup), green belt-blue tag (5th Kup), blue belt (4th Kup), blue belt-red tag (3rd Kup), red belt (2nd Kup), red belt-black tag (1st Kup), black belt (1st Dan – 9th Dan).

How and when will I know if I am ready to grade?

If you have put the time in and have trained regularly, you should be ready to grade when the time comes.  Belt promotions are held every three months, but we appreciate that students progress at different rates depending on but not limited to commitments outside the dojang: injury, work and home life etc.  Students should try to test regularly having attended the minimum number of classes which is 80%.  You also need to be able to do all that is required for the grading test to a reasonable standard and must be up to date with your training fees and hold valid British Taekwondo insurance.
